Obituary

Obituary for Virginia L. "Dee" Toomey (Newhouse)

Virginia L. “Dee” Newhouse Toomey, 87, of Harrisburg, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born on September 10, 1932, in Delmont, she was the daughter of the late Charles George, Sr., and Luella Irene Kemerer Newhouse.

Dee retired after over 20 years as a seamstress from the former Hesteco Dress & Sportswear Manufacturing Company, Hummelstown. She was a graduate of Hershey High School. A woman who couldn’t sit still, Dee enjoyed shopping especially looking for a bargain whether at a store or yard sale, gardening, doing all kinds of puzzles, listening to country music, baking and watching comedy and game shows. Most of all, Dee loved spending time with her family. A heart of gold, she would do anything for anyone.

Dee was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Toomey, on November 24, 2015; a son, William C. Toomey; and a sister, Mary Lou Filson.

Dee is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven K and Debbie L. Toomey of Harrisburg; daughter-in-law, Ellen Stover Toomey of Lebanon; two brothers, Charles G. “Skip” Newhouse, Jr. husband of Francis of Myerstown, and Larry P. “Butch” Newhouse wife of Wanda L. of Harrisburg; two sisters, Nancy M. Gerber of Annville, and Lucy I. Russ of Highspire; three grandchildren, Cara E. Toomey, Shanice A. Toomey, and Shane R. Toomey; four great grandchildren, Noah, Cheyanne, Mason, and Ryder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in memory of Dee to the PA Wounded Warriors, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011, or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.

A beautiful soul was taken from us to soon. Not only was she my Aunt but my best friend. No matter what she was always there for me and we always had a laugh whether it was at my expense or silly snap chats. She is missed so much by so many. I love you Aunt Dee and I miss you more then anything. Rest easy with Pap and all our loved ones taken to soon.
