Obituary for Verna V. Schwartz (Via)

Verna Via Schwartz, 88, of Columbia Cottage, Palmyra, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Lower Paxton Township on January 4, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Mary Heisey Via.

Verna retired as a Secretary in the Nursing Department of the Hershey Medical Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hershey, and its Faith Circle United Methodist Women; and attended Stoverdale United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Areba Club. Verna enjoyed reading and gardening, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Schwartz. A daughter, Linda Carnline, of Marshall TX, passed away unexpectedly this past Friday, January 3, 2020.

Verna is survived by two sons, Stephen Schwartz and David Schwartz husband of Kathy both of Hershey; a daughter, Laurie Hover wife of Scott of Hershey; a sister, Ethel Schwartz of Phillipsburg, GA; five grandchildren, Robert “Bobby” Carnline husband of Brandy of Plano, TX, and Jennifer Stafford wife of Matthew, David Schwartz, Alexander Hover and Sydney Hover all of Hershey; and three great grandsons, Austin and Andrew Carnline of Plano, TX, and Ryan Stafford of Hershey.

A celebration of Verna’s life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 64 West Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, with The Rev. Clyde H. DeShong, III, her pastor, officiating. A private graveside service will be held in the Fishburn Cemetery, Hershey. Visitation will be Saturday in the church from 10 AM until time of the service.
