Ryan P. Taggart, 38, of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2020, in the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from multiple medical issues with his family by his side.

Born in Doylestown on September 28, 1981, he was the son of Jane A. Crowley Taggart of Elizabethtown and the late Timothy D. Taggart who preceded him in death on July 14, 2019.

Ryan was employed in hospitality and management by Hershey Entertainment; and was formerly an Outside Sales Representative for MidAtlantic Machinery, Inc. He was a 2000 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School where he played the trumpet and performed in many theatrical shows; and was a 2004 graduate of Bluefield College, Bluefield, VA, receiving a Bachelor’s in Business and a minor in Theater.

A community minded man, Ryan served with wisdom and pride on the Hummelstown Borough Council. For the past several years he successfully co-chaired the annual Chick’s Hummelstown Tavern Golf Outing which benefited the Hummelstown Youth Summer Recreation program, as well as the Lower Dauphin Travel and All-Star Baseball Association of which Ryan served as Secretary. He was also a former member of the Hummelstown Rotary Club. Ryan enjoyed being outdoors, riding trails on his four-wheeler, and hunting. A personable and caring man, Ryan wanted to touch people with humor and love. He will not only be truly missed by his family but by everyone whose life he touched.

In addition to his mother, Ryan is survived by one sister, Pamela J. Bonsall wife of Joseph W. and their children Emily and Will of Elizabethtown; and one brother, Denis M. Taggart husband of Molly and their children Wesley, Kellen and Shelly of Hershey.

A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held at a later date due to the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Hummelstown Chemical Fire Company #1, PO Box 312, Hummelstown, PA 17036.

Dear Jane and the Taggart family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Ryan and I worked together for all of his years with Mid Atlantic Machinery and Southern States Machinery. We would talk often back then, and stayed in touch by text in later years, I always looked forward to seeing him when we came to Hershey for meetings or in NC. Unfortunately, the last time we met was at Tim's funeral, and after, we shared some tears, some drinks, and then some laughs together. That's exactly how I will remember Ryan......a wise soul, quick wit, and fun loving personality! Always willing to help. He went thru alot these past many years, but always held his head high and never complained. He always wanted to know how we were doing, never focusing on himself. He will be missed and is gone from us way too soon. But I can hear him and Tim now looking down now, laughing and joking; "buzzard bate!" With God's help, our tears and sorrow will hopefully soon be replaced by all the joy and fond memories we each have of Ryan.
Love to you all,
Paul & Joann Buckshon

Many years have passed since I had Ryan as a student in 4th grade at East Hanover Elementary School. I remember him as a happy, smiling young boy. His friendly demeanor appears to have stayed with him throughout his life.
I am so sorry for the family’s loss of Ryan and send my deepest sympathies.

To Ryan's mom and family I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful young man, I will always remember all the talks and great times we had while he was a patient of mine. He made my night shift great. May you rest in peace my dear friend.

One would not expect an 8th grade English teacher to be grieved over a former student's death. But Ryan was a bright and funny kid who touched my heart every day. Actually that was three times a day because he was in my morning homeroom, my English class, and then in my 8th period study hall. I can see his face as if it were last month, not 25 years ago, and I can hear him laughing. Even when he exasperated me with his chatter, he made me smile. He went on from middle school to become the caring, giving, successful man I believed he could be. He made the world a brighter one. May all of his family and friends be comforted by reminding each other of his jokes, and by knowing that Ryan walks in light now. God bless you, Ryan. With a loving heart from your teacher, your Mrs. Zeigler (Mama Z), now Nancy Kapp.
