Ruth Mahek Snyder Billow, 91, formerly of Union Deposit and Cedar Haven Health Care Center, Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, with her loving daughter by her side.

Born in Rutherford on December 4, 1927, she was ninth of twelve children of the late Stefan John and Ruth Baker Mahek.

Ruth retired after 35 years from the Wrapping Department of the Hershey Chocolate Company. She was a 1946 graduate of the former Swatara Township High School. Ruth was a member of the Chocolate Workers Union Local 464, Hershey, and the former Eshleman-Pankake-Wolf Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary #9639, Shellsville. Entertaining her grandchildren was Ruth’s greatest glory.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul E. Snyder, on August 16, 1960; her second husband, Carl “Curly” E. Billow, on August 17, 2019; seven sisters, Catherine M. Mahek, Hilda Frantz Yingst, Dorothy Steckman, Julia Derr, Helen Elizabeth Swanger Manchester, Mary Jane Thomas, and Barbara A. Day; and four brothers, Steven C. Mahek, Thomas Baker Mahek, William L. Mahek, and Ray M. Mahek, Sr.

Ruth is survived by one daughter, Paula G. Jiao of Hummelstown; two granddaughters, Jessica Jiao Smith wife of V. Hawley Smith, III, of Jacksonville, FL, and Monica Jiao Ream of Palmyra; four great grandchildren, Caleb Michael Sitler of Palmyra, and Stratten Ruth, Georgia Grace and Holmes Elizabeth Smith all of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Matthew B. Pensinger, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy, officiating. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewing will be Thursday at the funeral home from 10 AM until time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Swatara, 2905 Camp Swatara Road, Bethel, PA 19507-9554.
