Robert N. Johnson, Jr., 75, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday morning, November 9, 2020, at Pleasant View Communities, Manheim.

Born in Harrisburg on March 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert N. Sr. and Marian Jane Shuey Johnson.

Bob retired as an analyst for International Business Machines (IBM). He was a 1963 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School. Bob was an upbeat kind of guy. He belonged to the Harrisburg Road Runners Club and the Harrisburg Canoe Club. Running was one of his greatest passions, and he could frequently be seen running through Hummelstown.

Bob was a true outdoor enthusiast, enjoying kayaking, biking, and spending time at the cabin. Robert would also volunteer at the Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA).

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Cara Ann Eshenour Johnson, whom he married on June 19, 1965; a daughter, Stacy L. Orwan, companion of Ken Apperson; a granddaughter, Angela; two brothers, Herbert F. Johnson of Mississippi, and Douglas J. Johnson of Hummelstown; and two sisters, Patricia J. Moyer of Florida, and Janis S. Trautman of Hummelstown.

Friends are invited to a visitation in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036 on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A private service will be held by the family at a later time.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent in Robert’s memory to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, 2700 Horizon Drive, Suite 120, King of Prussia, PA 19406 or to Special Olympics PA - Area M, PO Box 382, Summerdale, PA 17093.

Lynne and I are so sorry to hear about Bob's passing. We were running pals in the '80's. We saw him at all the races and often went on our "long" Sunday runs from Hershey/Hummelstown through Palmyra and back with Bob and many other good running buds. He was a memorable guy who always had a smile and a chuckle and an upbeat personality. He made the hard miles a lot more fun.

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob had a talent for making running "look easy", but an even greater talent for bringing life to a group of runners on a training run. He was a great storyteller, and many of his stories ended with a hearty laugh, and that ever-present grin on his face. He was known to push the pace, but never took himself or his abilities too seriously. He always went out of his way to get to know people a little more, and make new people feel part of the group. He was always a fun guy to be around, and would jump in to help anytime HARRC needed him.

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I worked with him for many years at IBM. Always energetic, upbeat, fun to talk to and be around. Bob was part of our once a month breakfast group gathering for many years. He loved discussing his competitive runs but really beamed when talking about his family, and especially when talking of his granddaughter, Angela. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Bob's family and friends. Scott Nedrow
