Obituary

Richard A. Olszewski, 80, of South Hanover Township, passed away on July 7, 2020, at his home.

Born March 10, 1940 in McKees Rocks, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Semako Olszewski.

A hard-working man and jack of all trades, Dick was the owner of Swatara Contractors, Inc. for nearly 60 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Dick was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Parish in Harrisburg. Although he loved playing Black Jack and fishing, there was nothing more important to Dick than spending time with his family and helping others in need.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy L. May Olszewski, on May 5, 2012; a granddaughter, Tara Rae Olszewski; a daughter-in-law, Sharon M. Olszewski; a brother, Joseph Olszewski; and a sister Christina Olszewski.

He is survived by three sons, Richard L. Olszewski of Florida, and Michael Olszewski husband of Loretta, and Andrew T. Olszewski fiancé of Lori Shafer, both of Hummelstown; two daughters, Gloria Ann Peifer wife of Charles, and Ida M. McMurray wife of Michael, both of Chambers Hill; their mother, his dear friend and first wife, Gloria V. DiAiuto Olszewski of Chambers Hill; his companion, Bonnie Potami of Rutherford; one brother, Lewis Olszewski of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Shirley Olszewski of Pittsburgh; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at 11:00 AM in St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, with The Rev. Fr. James E. Lease, as celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Harrisburg. Friends will be received for a viewing on Monday, July 13, 2020, from 5:30 to 8 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown; and on Tuesday in the church from 10:00 AM until time of the mass.

Those desiring may send memorial contributions to St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111.

Andy,
I am so sorry to learn of your father's passing. I did not have the pleasure of meeting him, but if you are an example of the type of person he was, then he was a class act. You have my sympathies and prayers.
