Obituary for Lloyd T. Byers

Lloyd Thomas “Big Lloyd” “L.T.” Byers, 86, of Middletown, passed from this life and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, with his daughter by his side.

Born on June 11, 1935 in Mt. Joy Township, he was the son of the late Thomas William and Alda Mae Smith Byers.

Big Lloyd’s passion was dairy farming having started his farm along with his wife, the Llo-Dawn Farm, located in Lower Swatara Township in 1958. In addition to farming, L.T. was employed by the Pennsylvania Farm Show, and Cleveland Brothers. He was a 1953 graduate of Middletown Area High School. Big Lloyd was a member and former Sunday School Secretary of the Christ Church United Church of Christ, Elizabethtown. He served on the Lower Swatara Township Planning Commission from January 1977 until December 1988. L.T. also served as past President and Membership Chairman of the Dauphin County Farmers’ Association; the Agway Board of Directors, the Pennsylvania Farmers’ Association Central Dauphin Advisory Council. Big Lloyd was also a member of the Farm and Home Administration.

L.T. was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Marie Pickel Byers, on January 22, 2012; and two brothers, Kenneth Byers and Donald Byers.

Big Lloyd is survived by a son, Lloyd Allen Byers fiancé of Stephanie Lewis of Pine Grove; a daughter, Joy Marie Byers McKee companion of William Kilhefner of Hummelstown; a grandson, Michael Thomas McKee of Hummelstown; great granddaughter, Makenzie Marie McKee of Hummelstown; and two sisters, Arletta Kaylor of Middletown and Janice Fogel.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Galen E. Russell officiating. Interment will be in the Middletown Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday, April 6, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM, and on Thursday from 10 AM until time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
