Elizabeth A. Kucan Diffendall, 90, of Frey Village Retirement Center, Middletown, and formerly of Steelton, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the home.

Born in Steelton on February 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Antonia Cop Kucan.

Elizabeth retired from the former AMP, INC, Harrisburg, and had worked as a waitress at several local restaurants. She was a graduate of the former Steelton High School. After her retirement Elizabeth volunteered helping the elderly and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, and a former member of its Arimathea Society. Elizabeth was also a member of the former VFW Auxiliary 1687, Hummelstown. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the Casino and to the beach, flower gardening, and especially being with her dogs. An amazing woman, Elizabeth was devoted not only to her family but to serving others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. “Jack” Diffendall, on September 23, 2018; her sister, Margaret Dimoff; and her brother, Jerome Kucan.

Elizabeth is survived by three sons, Michael J. Diffendall and James P. Diffendall both of Hummelstown, and Thomas L. Diffendall of Coatsville; three daughters, Jenine E. Marcus of Steelton, Martha J. Scheetz of Higbee, MS, and Beth Ann Appleby of Harrisburg; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 8, 2020, at 11 AM in Seven Sorrows BVM Catholic Church, 280 Race Street, Middletown, with The Rev. Fr. Edward J. Keating as celebrant. I am so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was a great mom and had a wonderful family. We all were good friends in Steelton's "West Side". I remember playing with Mike and his brothers and sisters. I also remember going fishing in the Susquehanna with Mike and his dad Jack. Betty used to like going to the "goat races" at Falmouth. My thoughts and prayers of comfort and peace are with the entire family during this, their time of grief.
