Obituary

Obituary for Edgar Herbert Sheets

Edgar H. Sheets, 90, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Columbia Cottage, Palmyra.

Born in Catawissa on October 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Knowlton Sheets and Pearl Brochey Kistler.

Ed retired as a Media Technician for the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, and had worked for the former Olmstead Air Force Base as an electro-mechanical instruments & controls repairer. After his retirement, Ed enjoyed being a courtesy driver for Turner Buick, Harrisburg. He was a 1947 graduate of Catawissa High School. Ed was a U.S. Air Force veteran stationed in Texas and Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the Highspire First Church of God. Ed was a life member and Past Adjutant of the American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown; and served as the Deputy District Commander for the 19th District and Central Secretary Adjutant of the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1687, Hummelstown. A jack of all trades, Ed could repair anything mechanical or electronic, and enjoyed woodworking and working on cars, but most of all, he loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. Ed’s children were very proud of their father’s tireless work ethic which he passed onto them.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Mary A. Davis Sheets, on December 19, 2019; by a grandson, Andrew T. Sheets (late husband of Jessica Numair); and a step-brother, Johnny Kistler.

Ed is survived by two sons, Thomas E. Sheets husband of Margaret J. of Harrisburg, and Michael L. Sheets husband of Christine of Newville; one daughter, Rosemary Kidd wife of Michael of Camp Hill; four grandchildren, Daniel Sheets partner of Karen Perea of Albuquerque, NM, Jessica Ann Tellstrom wife of Mitchell of Indianapolis, IN, and Allison Kidd and Alex Kidd both of Atlanta, GA; a granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Numair of Albuquerque; and eight great grandchildren, Eva, Jackson, Andrew and Madison Sheets, and Kieran Richards all of Albuquerque, Olin and Evelyn Tellstrom both of Indianapolis, and Gauge Stidham of Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2020, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with Pastor David J. Anderson, his pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewing will be Monday at the funeral home from 10 AM until time of the service.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Hospice of All Seasons, 280 South Hill Drive, Grantville, PA 17028.
The family members would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hummelstown HomeCare and its staff, the nurses, aides and staff of Columbia Cottage and the staff of Hospice For All Seasons for the compassionate quality of care given to Dad.
