Cyril “Mac” Mclain Mead, 96, of Country Meadows, Hershey, and formerly of Conneaut Lake, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in the home surrounded by family.

Born in Conneautville, PA, on August 11, 1923, he was the son of the late Milton and Mildred Hewitt Mead.

Mac retired as the President of The First National Bank of Cochranton after 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Conneautville High School.

Mac entered the Navy in January, 1943. He was stationed in NTS, Sampson, NY; Navy Hospital, Portsmouth, VA; MF SS Camp Lejeune, New River, NC; and Co “D” Med BR, 5th Marine Division FMF. Mac served with the 5th Marine Division during the landing at Iwo Jima in the Pacific Ocean. Mac earned The Victory Medal, The American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. He was discharged in January, 1946.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Banker’s Association, and enjoyed fishing, golfing and antiquing.

Mac is survived by his wife of 76 years, Betty J. Mead; a daughter, Janet White, wife of David White of Gettysburg; two sisters, Carol Richmond of Dicksonburg and Jeannette Baird of Meadville; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Mead, and three brothers, Gayle Mead, Earl Mead and William Mead.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in his memory may be directed to support Cancer Research at the PSU Cancer Institute. Please make checks payable to Penn State University. Gifts may be mailed with a memo indicating that this gift is in memory of Cyril M. Mead to University Development, Attn: J. Miska, 1249 Cocoa Ave, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Mead. He was an awesome boss. I remember one time he took some of us to a meeting and on the way home we stopped at Monroeville Mall (I think that was the mall) and went Christmas shopping. A lot of good memories, He was quite a good quilter too. My prayers for Betty and Janet and the rest of the family. May God comfort you. Linda Sullivan
