Obituary

Craig J. Bittenbender, 64, of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 30, 2020, with his wife by his side.

Born March 10, 1955, in Bethlehem, PA, he was the son of the late Naomi and Truman Bittenbender; and was also preceded in death by a brother Denis.

Craig graduated from Freedom High School and Kutztown University. He taught and coached at Lower Dauphin High School. Craig enjoyed golfing, woodworking, Penn State sports, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cassandra (Sandy) Updegraff Bittenbender. Also surviving are sister Gail Fairchild, and brothers Bruce (Sue) and Jon (Patti). He was uncle to fourteen nieces and nephews, and a growing number of “greats”.

Viisitation and services will be held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Martha S. Boyd, his pastor, officiating. Visitations will be Monday, February 10, 2020, from 6 to 8 PM, and on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before his 11:00 AM service

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036; or to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Arrangements are entrusted to Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 W. Main Street, Hummelstown.

Craig is one great guy and I will miss him. Didn’t know him all that well, but enough to recognize what a gem he was. He was in my prayers for years. My condolences to his family and close friends.
