Obituary for Clarence William Sowers

Clarence William Sowers “Bill”, 89, of Palmyra, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in the Palmyra Heritage House, surrounded by his loving children.

Born in Hummelstown on February 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Flora A. Henry Sowers.

Bill was a retired pilot having flown for many companies. He was a 1951 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School. Bill served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He faithfully attended Mountain View Bible Church, Hummelstown. Airplanes were not only Bill’s profession but his hobby as he enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He was also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley L. Houser Sowers; two sons, William W. Sowers husband of Nancy of Middletown, and Randy Sowers of Hummelstown; a daughter, Melody A. O’Brien wife of Roy of Middletown; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Scott A. Sowers on November 3, 2021; and a brother, John E. Sowers on August 26, 2014.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 11 AM in the Mountain View Bible Church, 34 Sipe Avenue, Hummelstown, with Pastor Bill Pfaunmiller, his pastor, officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. A time to visit with the family will be held Thursday in the church from 10 AM until time of the service.
