Billye M. Howard, 77, of Hershey, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from complications due to a hemorrhagic stroke.

She was born in Hershey on August 3, 1943, to the late John H. and Wanda Koons Howard.

Billye was a 1961 graduate of Hershey High School and a 1965 graduate of the Medical Technology program at the University of Colorado. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Pennsylvania State University in 1995.

She began her career at Harrisburg Hospital before moving on to the University of Michigan and Walter Reed Army Medical Center before acquiring a position in the Special Chemistry department at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center until she retired as a supervisor in 1995.

Billye was a passionate fan of both stage and screen. These passions were reflected in her volunteer work at the Hershey Theater, both in her youth ushering for movies and as an adult doing the same for live productions. She also pursued these interests through being a dedicated member of the Hershey Area Playhouse community and working at the Cocoaplex Cinema.

She had a love of travel that took her to various parts of the world including attending the Passion play in Oberammergau, Germany and walking on the Great Wall of China, one of her fondest memories.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Matthew Ford of Hershey.

In addition to her parents, Billye was preceded in death by her sister, Judy H. Millwater, wife of James Millwater of Tampa, Florida.

At Billye’s request, there will be no services.

Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers and to honor her passion for American films, please consider a contribution to The National Film Preservation Foundation at 145 Ninth Street, Suite 260, San Francisco, CA 94103 in her honor.
