Doris Elaine Dennis Rinesmith, 84, of Hershey, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, in the Harrisburg Hospital. For a select few people, Doris was known as “Sophie” from the ‘Golden Girls’.
Born in York on September 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Virgie Spangler Dennis.
Doris retired as a custodian from the Derry Township School District; and was a dress maker at the former Hesteco Dress & Sportswear Manufacturing Company and the former Press Dress & Uniform Company of Hummelstown. She was a member of the Hummelstown United Church of Christ. Doris was a doll collector. Most of all, she enjoyed dressing up as Mrs. Claus and visiting nursing homes and the local malls during the holiday season.

Doris is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gary D. Rinesmith, whom she married on June 29, 1963; four brothers, Richard Dennis husband of Patricia of Etters, Robert Dennis of Wrightsville, Donald Dennis husband of Thelma of Middletown, and Joseph Dennis husband of Dawn of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with the Rev. Dr. Norman C. Marks pastor of Mountain View Bible Church, Hummelstown, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to the viewing Thursday from 10 AM until time of the service.
