Obituary of Julia E. Espenshade
Julia E. Cassel Espenshade, 93, a resident of Ecumenical Retirement Community, Harrisburg, and formerly of Chambers Hill, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2016.
Born in South Hanover Township on March 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Martin E. and Daisy M. Felty Cassel. Julia retired as a housekeeper for the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center. She was a 1940 graduate of the former Lower Paxton High School. Julia was a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hoernerstown, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was a former member of the Soroptimist International of Harrisburg East, the Hummelstown Golden Age Club, the Hummelstown Area Historical Society, and the Hershey Chapter of AARP. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Stout Espenshade, on September 9, 1992; a daughter, Janet Marie Wilson, on August 21, 1986; a son, Kenneth E. Espenshade, on June 21, 2015; four brothers, John M. Cassel, Frank Cassel, Luther Cassel and Alfred Cassel; and two sisters, Voila Brightbill and Fannie Hoffer.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris J. Espenshade of Hershey, and Patricia Wilson of Dauphin; two grandchildren, Jennifer M. Wilson and her significant other Scott A. Cawthern of Dauphin, and Chad L. Wilson husband of Susan A. of Dauphin; a great grandson, Cooper L. Wilson of Dauphin; and a brother, Paul C. Cassel of Edgemont, AR.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Martha S. Boyd, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the service.
