Obituary for Ruth N. Hetrick (Wagner)
Ruth Naomi Wagner Wilt Hetrick, 99, of Hershey, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2018, in Columbia Cottage, Palmyra.
Born on a farm near Hershey on December 13, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Kathryn Keeney Wagner. As the ninth of fourteen children, Ruth developed a strong work ethic and commitment to family; as a young woman she was often elected to help in preparing meals and could also be found tending to the horses if needed. Her work ethic continued when Ruth worked in the peanut almond department of the Hershey Chocolate Company for over 15 years. Being raised by strict Christian parents, and the daughter of a preacher, helped to develop Ruth’s strong faith. She attended Sand Beach Bible Church in past years, and currently was a longtime member of Community Bible Church, Palmyra. Aside from her unfailing faith, family was the most important thing in the world to Ruth. It seemed there was always a birthday or holiday to celebrate, usually calling for her to prepare a feast for her family and playing a family favorite card game, “Oh Heck”. Her greatest joy was being able to serve, teach, and guide her family both spiritually and as a truly one of a kind mother.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband and father of her children, George W. Wilt, on August 7, 1971; her second husband, Herman Hetrick, on March 9, 2005; and eleven of her siblings.
She is survived by her five children, Frederick Wilt and wife, Bonnie of Brogue, PA, and their three children and five grandchildren; Stanford Wilt and wife, Tamara of Marlton, NJ, and their two children and three grandchildren; Sherlene Chamberlain and husband, Larry of LaFontaine, IN, and their two children and thirteen grandchildren; Donna Deane and husband, Robert of Cleveland, OK; and George Wilt and wife, Karen of Whitehall, PA, and their daughter; her remaining two sisters, Mary Hixon, and June Seesholtz; and her step children and grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 11 AM in Community Bible Church, 1849 South Forge Road, Palmyra, with her pastor, Greg Wilson, officiating. Interment will be in Hanoverdale Cemetery, West Hanover Township. Viewings will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and again on Saturday in the church from 10 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Bible Church, 1849 South Forge Road, Palmyra, PA 17078.
