Jean Hoover (Ricker)
Jean Ricker Hoover, 89, of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017, in Stonebridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon.
Born in Swatara Township, on August 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Ross V. and Edna N. Forney Ricker.
Jean was a clerk for the former United Telephone Company of Pennsylvania. She was a 1946 graduate of the former Swatara Township High School, Harrisburg. Jean was a longtime member of the former Lawnton Grace Evangelical Congregational Church and Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Rutherford. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #327, Marysville, and served in all the chairs. Jean’s first love was her church, which she loved to decorate, as well as her home. She enjoyed traveling, crafting, and square dancing.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, Hugh Wevodau and Charles H. Hoover; sister, Mildred J. Emert; and caregiver, Timothy A. Landis, Sr.
She is survived by a sister, Miriam E. Cook; her caregiver and dear friend, Debra K. Landis; her adopted family, Dr. James Pastor, Jamie L. Pastor, A.J. Pastor, and Jeremy Pastor; her adopted grandchildren, Timothy A. Landis, Jr. and Kristopher M. Landis; her adopted great grandchildren, Kailey, Kyra, Ty, Cody, and Bentley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at 12 Noon in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. James Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewings in the funeral home on Monday, December 4, 2017, from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday from 11 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala-Cynwyd, PA 19004 or to the National Cervical Cancer Coalition, PO Box 13827, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709.
