Obituary for Gerald P. Shearer
Gerald Paul Shearer, 86, of Hershey, passed away while visiting his granddaughter on Thursday, October 5, 2017, in the Comanche County Memorial Hospital, Lawton, OK.
Born in Hershey on November 7, 1930, he was the son of the late John Russell and Susan Stewart Shearer.
Gerald retired as a building maintenance worker. He was a Marine Corps veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Gerald was a member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmyra. He enjoyed camping and roller skating, however, most precious to him was spending time with his close friends and family.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Moses Shearer, on October 24, 2004, and his son, Douglas Paul Shearer, on December 13, 2005.
He is survived by two grandchildren, Tasha L. Burkett wife of Robert W., Jr. of Lawton, OK, and Christopher A. Shearer of Hummelstown; and three great grandchildren, Xena Evelyn Burkett and Zacharyj William Paul Burkett both of Lawton, and Landon Douglas Shearer of Hummelstown; and his daughter-in-law, Debra Ann Starnowsky Shearer of Hummelstown.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 16, 2017, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Charles A. Walker officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing in the funeral home on Monday from 10 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036. The family will determine the use of the donation at a later date.
