Obituary for Dorothy Karstetter
Dorothy M. “Dottie” Karstetter, 92, of Palmyra, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, in Columbia Cottage, Palmyra.
Born in Tyrone, on October 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Mae Snyder Ewing.
Dottie retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad after 34 years of service. She began as a box car loader and then became an office clerk until she retired. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School, and worked her first job as a nurse aid for the State Hospital in Harrisburg. Dottie was a member of Church of the Brethren, Tyrone, and the Shared Ministry, Harrisburg. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroaders Association, Enola, for 38 years. Dottie loved traveling the world, music, making clothes with liquid embroidery, and enjoyed helping other people. Dottie was also very involved at the Rutherford House, Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Clara Riggleman, Sarah Williams, Alice Hohn, Clair Ewing, Raymond Ewing, Vernon Ewing, and Bernard Ewing.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 7 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. A viewing will be held in the funeral home from 6 PM until time of the services. A graveside service and interment will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 11 AM in the Bald Eagle Cemetery, Tyrone.
