Obituary for Richard M. Ranaglia Sr.

Richard M. Ranaglia Sr.
Lifelong Hershey resident Richard M. Ranaglia, Sr., age 80, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017. He was born on October 30, 1936, in Hershey and graduated from Hershey High School in 1954. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Ranaglia; daughter Doriann M. Geller and her husband Jeff Geller; son Richard M. Ranaglia, Jr.; grandchildren James Geller and his wife Cathy, Elizabeth Geller and her husband Stephen Jones, Christina Fischer and her husband Bryan, and Nicolas Ranaglia; and great-grandchildren Aubrey and Gwendolyn Geller and Adalyn Fischer; sister Rosalind Fahey and her husband Walter, and brother Roland Ranaglia; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews in the United States and Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francesca and Sabatino Ranaglia, and two sisters, Mary and Gemma.

An accomplished lifelong musician, Mr. Ranaglia played the accordion with The Sidemen for many years, and recently with German bands and as a soloist, delighting audiences throughout the mid-state area. He was a letter carrier for over 30 years, serving as shop steward for the Hershey Post Office and Vice President of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Allen L. Stuart Branch 500. He was a lifelong member of the Hershey Italian Lodge and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Family was the most important part of his life, and he enjoyed spending time at the beach, where his extended family often gathered.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Friday, August 4, at 5:30 p.m., with a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, August 5, 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 5, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.
