Obituary for Gerald Newhouse

Gerald O. Newhouse, 85, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at his home.
Born in Carlisle on June 4, 1923, he was the son of the late William P. and Mary A. Dunbar Newhouse. Gerald was a retired truck driver for Roadway Express. After he retired Gerald drove school bus for Derry Township School District. He was a U.S. Navy veteran (Seaman 1st Class) who served during World War II. His ship, the USS Begor, was the first Allied ship to tie up at the Yokosuka base, Tokyo harbor. Gerald was a member of the Teamsters Union 776, and the USS Begor (APD-127) Association. He was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a son, Barry Ray Newhouse; two brothers, Lester and John; and one sister, Dorothy Crull.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Stover Newhouse, whom he married on September 13, 1941; one son, Gerald Randall Newhouse of Hummelstown; six grandchildren, Jameson R. Newhouse husband of Dawn of Stewartstown, Matthew R. Newhouse and Todd R. Newhouse both of Hummelstown, Marsha A. Newhouse of Hershey, Jerlyn Newhouse of Hummelstown, and Brad Ray Newhouse husband of Gwen of Hershey; two great grandchildren, Matthew M. Black husband of Amy E. of Hershey and Annalynn Black of Pittstown; one brother, Kenneth Newhouse husband of Florence of Carlisle; and one sister, Leona Lutsbaugh of Carlisle .
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. John W. Betlyon and The Rev. Charles L. Klinger officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends will be received for a viewing Wednesday in the funeral home from 10 AM until time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
