Doris  Smith (Hein)
Doris M. Hein Smith, 80, of Harrisburg, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 in her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 23, 1936 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Russel W. and Rosie M. Zuna Hein.
Doris spent most of her life as a homemaker and caring for her family. As her children became older, she worked various places, including the former Hesteco Dress Company, Fashion Bug, and Ice Cream Heaven. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Rutherford. Doris was a member of the former VFW Ladies Auxiliary Unit 1687, Hummelstown. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Most important to Doris was her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and granddogs.
She is survived by her children, Robyn M. Rhoads and her husband Charles R. of Harrisburg, Robert J. Smith, Jr. and his girlfriend Vickie L. Powley of Middletown, Randall W. Smith and his girlfriend Bertie M. Welch of Harrisburg, and Renae A. Luckenbaugh and her fiancé Paul J. Morgan of Halifax; siblings, Raymond W. Hein of Palmyra, Judy E. Miller and her husband William E. of Hershey, and Terry A. Goodling and her husband Lavern G. “Zeke” of Hummelstown; seven grandchildren, Kelli Flickinger, Kara Goddard, Kyle Rhoads, Amanda Masker, Matthew Luckenbaugh, Tyler Stick and Devon Stick; and six great grandchildren, Alexis, Dylan, Keri, Ethan, Chase, and Mercedes, with another great granddaughter soon to be born.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Richard F. Anderson, Hebron United Methodist Church, Millersburg, officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday in the funeral home from 10 AM until time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc., East Shore Shelter, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111 or to the Kidney Foundation of Central PA, 1500 Paxton Street Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17104.
