Bobby Clinton Thurman, 80, of Derry Township, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Roanoke, VA on August 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Mary Shifflett Thurman.
Bobby was a truck driver for the former Preston Trucking Company. He was a US Navy veteran and very proud of his service to his country. Bobby was a member of the Hershey Free Church, Derry Township. Bobby’s greatest passion in life was his family and the Navy.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Peggy Crotts Thurman, whom he married on March 2, 1957; two daughters, Julie J. Roush and Nancy E. Patt both of Hummelstown; two sons, Bobby Clinton Thurman II husband of Mitzi of Boones Mill, VA and John E. Thurman of Hardy, VA; two brothers, Thomas Thurman husband of Ella Mae of Vinton, VA, and Wayne Thurman of Roanoke, VA; twelve grandchildren, Kristin, Erin, Tyler, Michael, Courtney, Dillon, Brian, Kara, Jacob, Jessie, Kaitlyn, and Brittany; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorrie Ann Demko; and three sisters, Gertrude, Christine, and Bessie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, 2017, at 12:30 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Omar B. Zook, Jr., Hershey Free Church, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 11:30 AM until time of the service.
