Madeline R. Duerr (Richards)
Madeline Richards Duerr, 94, of Palmyra and formerly of Mystic, CT, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016, in Traditions of Hershey, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Mystic, CT, on April 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edgar J. and Grace Wilson Richards.
Madeline spent most of her life caring for her family and home, and also helped in a pharmacy. She attended the Church of the Holy Spirit, Palmyra, and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mystic, CT. Madeline enjoyed walking, bowling, sailing and being anywhere near the ocean.
In addition to her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, John Leon Duerr in September 2001; her son, John R. Duerr; her son in law, Daniel C. Wilson; and her sisters, Joan Richards and Virginia Allen.
She is survived by her three daughters, Bonnie D. Wilson of Hummelstown, Joyce Thorp wife of Keith of Keeseville, NY, and Joanne Kowalski of Pawcatuck, CT; seven grandchildren, Jeremy D. Wilson, Nathan C. Wilson husband of Sarah, Adam P. Wilson, Stephanie Thornton wife of Anthony, Tom Thorp, Amanda Stanley wife of Brandon, and Edward Duerr; and several great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11 AM in the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, CT. A visitation will be held from 10 AM until time of the service. Inurnment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, CT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Auxiliary Post#3263, 60 Stonington Road, Mystic, CT, 06355.
