Obituary for Barry R. Smith
Barry R. Smith, 74, of Palmyra, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Harrisburg on June 12, 1942, he was the son of Harry R. “Smitty” and Betty L. “Shorty” Prosser Smith.
Barry was a self employed truck driver. He was an US Marine Corps veteran. Barry was a member of the Robert R. Smith Detachment, Marine Corps League, Hummelstown. He was a car junky, and loved his old cars; he belonged to the Blue Moon Cruisers and Good Guys Cruisers. Barry never missed a NASCAR race, especially if it was Jeff Gordon.
Barry is survived by his wife, Marchere Bargo Smith; daughters, Robin L. Stine wife of The Rev. Stephen M. Stine, Sr. of Palmyra, Michelle L. Mullen wife of Patrick of Lebanon, and Megan M. Armold of Annville; sons, David A. Smith of Richland and Christopher M. Smith of Georgia; sisters, Judith A. Ranieri and Janet L. Templin wife of Joseph both of Palmyra; brothers, Jerry W. Smith of Hummelstown, Keith R. Smith of Palmyra, and William R. Smith husband of Donna of Florida; fourteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by a brother, Robert R. Smith.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 12 Noon in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Stephen M. Stine, Sr., his son in law, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewings will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM and again on Thursday from 11 AM until time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
