Obituary for Margaret P. Young (Welcomer)

Margaret P. Young (Welcomer)
Margaret P. “Sis” Welcomer Young, 103, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, in Frey Village, Middletown.
Born in West York on July 29, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Elma V. Warner Welcomer.
Margaret was a clerk for Welcomer’s Grocery Store. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hoernerstown, and a former longtime member of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, York New Salem. Margaret was an avid Phillies fan; she loved to dance, play cards, read, and complete crossword puzzles and word searches. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, teasing them constantly. Margaret was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loy E. Young on February 12, 2003; two brothers, W. Arthur Welcomer and Robert Luther Welcomer; and a granddaughter, Kathy Jo Smith.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Smith of Hummelstown; two grandchildren, Terry A. Smith husband of Ella of Hummelstown, and Linda A. Smith wife of David Young of Dover; six great grandchildren, Scott Lebo, Amanda Orfanelli, Jennifer Mondoro, Cynthia Smith, Christine Smith, and Jarrod Smith; and four great great grandchildren, Haley Hixon, Ariana Mondoro, Sara Lebo and Andrew Lebo.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 11 AM in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Martha S. Boyd, her pastor, officiating. Friends will be received for a viewing on Thursday in the church from 10 AM until time of the services. A graveside service and interment will be on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 10 AM in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery, York New Salem.
Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036, or to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
