Obituary for William O. Toomey
William O. “Bill” Toomey, 80, of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 20, 1934 in Goldsboro he was the son of the late Oliver Toomey and Mildred Saville Ludwig.
Bill was a retiree of Sunoco Montour Oil, Harrisburg. He attended William Penn High School. Bill was an U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 265 and the former VFW Post 1687, both of Hummelstown. Bill was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and pappy.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia L. Newhouse Toomey; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven K. and Debbie L. Toomey of Harrisburg; daughter-in-law, Ellen Stover Toomey of Lebanon; his sister, Jackie Carr wife of Jim; his step siblings, Barbara Fruhwirth wife of George, and Charles Ludwig; and three grandchildren, Cara E. Toomey, Shanice A. Toomey, and Shane R. Toomey.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, William C. Toomey; two sisters, Nancy Hoffman and Doris Mumma; and a brother, Ronald Toomey.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
