Obituary for Joanne B. Longenecker (Embody)
Joanne B. Embody Longenecker, 86, of Lawn, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017, in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Born in Pottstown on May 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Dorothy Myrtle Biehl Embody.
Joanne was an Executive Secretary and Office Manager from the former Mrs. Smith Pie Company, Pottstown ; was a receptionist for Dr. C. Donald Walley in Palmyra; and worked in Security at Harrisburg International Airport. She was a 1948 graduate of Pottstown Senior High School. Joanne was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former Secretary for the Palmyra High School Band Boosters. Joanne was an avid reader. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joanne loved her family dearly. She found great delight in housekeeping giving her family a beautiful home in which to live.
Joanne is survived by her beloved husband, Darwin R. Longenecker, whom she married on June 8, 1957; one daughter, Victoria Lynn Williams wife of W. Bennett of Hummelstown; one son, Kevin Ray Longenecker of Lawn; two grandsons, Greggory B. Williams and Jordan R. Williams both of Hummelstown; one brother William Sylvester Embody, Jr. of Douglassville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Melvin Embody.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 2 PM in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Lois K. Van Orden, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends will be received for the viewings on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, from 6 to 8 PM and again on Thursday in the church’s parlor from 1 PM until time of the service.
