Jane Arnold (Ulrich)
Jane Ulrich Arnold, 95, of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, and formerly of Paxtang, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015, in the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Bethlehem, PA on June 24, 1920, Jane was the daughter of the late J. Ray and Grace Hopple Ulrich.
Jane graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem. She received a B.S. in Nursing from Simmons College, Boston, MA and an M.S. in Education from Temple University, Philadelphia. She received a diploma from Renouard Training School for embalmers where she also taught anatomy.
She was Director of the School of Nursing at the former Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg from which she retired after 31 years.
Jane was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for nurses. During her career she was chairperson of the Education Committee for the Pennsylvania League for Nursing, an accreditation visitor for the National League for Nursing, chairperson of the nursing committee of the Harrisburg Chapter of the American Red Cross, and a member of the board of the Pennsylvania Heart Association.
She was a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and a former member of Memorial Lutheran Church where she served as superintendent of the women’s department of Sunday School, president of Women of the Church, a teacher in Sunday School and teacher of the first year confirmation class in weekday church school.
Jane was a past matron in Capital City #146 O.E.S. and a past queen of Ozemb Temple #52, Daughters of the Nile, life member and past president of the Paxtang Civic Club, and a life member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #998, Lawnton.
Jane is survived by two granddaughters, Rebecca E. Arnold of Harrisburg and Kimberly E. Arnold of New Cumberland; and a daughter-in-law, Christine D. Arnold of Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Spencer W. Arnold, Sr., two sons, Spencer W. Arnold, Jr. and David R. Arnold, a brother, John R. Ulrich, Jr. and a sister, Ann U. Starrett.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in The Evangelical Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, 3700 Rutherford Street, Paxtang, with The Rev. Kathleen J. Baker, STM officiating. Interment will be in Shoops Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
