Obituary for Jane I. Begani (Ferree)
Jane Itha (Ferree) Begani, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2017, at Ecumenical Retirement Community in Harrisburg.
Jane was born in Wiconisco on Dec. 9, 1934, to Clarence and Nellie Ferree and grew up in Lykens, where she met her husband, John Peter Begani, following his service in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
Together they had five children and raised them in locations in both the U.S. and Europe as John served in the U.S. Army through the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Shortly after John left the Army, the family moved to the Hummelstown area where John died in a construction accident in 1973, leaving Jane to raise their children as a single mother.
A tireless worker, Jane was employed at Lynn’s Market and various Turkey Hill stores until retiring with her beloved dogs to her cute little house on South Early Street in Hummelstown.
Jane is survived by her five children (Debra Buffington, Craig Begani, Pam Begani, John Vincent Begani and Brenda Doane), two sisters (Ruth Detweiler and Margaret Magaro), one brother (Dean Ferree), two sons-in-law (David Buffington and Bob Doane), two daughters-in-law (Glennys Begani and Cami Begani), 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and others who were proud to call her “Grandma” and “Nana.”
Jane had an easy smile, a way with words and a fierce devotion to her family … a devotion she constantly expressed with these warm words, “I love you more.”
A public visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, 10-11 a.m. with a service following at 11 a.m. Both the visitation and service will be held at Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St. in Hummelstown. Burial will follow at the Hummelstown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 W. Main St., Hummelstown PA 17036 or the Humane Society of Harrisburg, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg PA 17111.
