Obituary for Richard R. "Dick" Alwine

Richard R. "Dick" Alwine
Richard R. “Dick” Alwine, 80, of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Harrisburg on November 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Paul and Carrie A. Strawsbaugh Alwine.
Dick retired from Honeywell, Inc., Harrisburg, where he was a service supervisor. He was a 1952 graduate of Hershey High School. Dick was a member of the 193rd Special Operations Unit of the Air National Guard for over 30 years. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hoernerstown. Dick was a former member of the PA Breeders Association. He was an avid golfer and Penn State fan, but most important to Dick was his family. He never missed an event whether it be one of his children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews, or the child of a family friend.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Brenda L. Deckard Alwine, whom he married on June 4, 1988; his children, Donna M. Heiser wife of David H. of Elizabethtown; Douglas J. Alwine partner of Antonio R. Infante of Albuquerque, NM; Carrie M. Berman wife of Barry E. of Westminster, MD; and Bethany L. Newhouse of Shermans Dale; and five grandchildren, Courtney M. Heiser and Cole D. Heiser both of Elizabethtown, Kassidy L. Newhouse and Kyleigh R. Newhouse both of Shermans Dale, and Joshua M. Berman husband of Megan of Westminster, MD.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Kirk C. Kerns, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. Viewings will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 6 to 8 PM and again on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Dick’s church, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 158 South Hoernerstown Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
