Gerald R. Zinn, 84, formerly of Hummelstown, beloved Brother and family Historian of the Zinn Reunions of York, Lancaster and Dauphin counties has recently departed and has gone to be with our Lord.
Gerald previously worked at Harrisburg’s Capitol, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 13 years in his younger days. His real love was the sea and he traveled to Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, China, the Cape of Africa, the Philippines, East and West Coasts, Alaska and many other ports. He worked for the Sailor’s Union of the Pacific and served on USS President Lines ships, 39 in all. Gerald was a US Army veteran, during the Vietnam War and Gulf Wars, I & II until 1996 and a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard – 28th Division. He was a member of Susquehanna Valley Mariners Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans, the Shellsville VFW and American Legion Post, Linglestown, PA. He attended Faith United Church of Christ, Grantville.
Gerald’s immediate family members include a brother, Kenneth W. of Harrisburg, Donald M. of Hummelstown, Delores Pettit of Georgia, and Carole L. Zinn of Harrisburg. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. & Mildred Zinn, sisters, Arvilla, Zelma Zinn Blose, Thomas Jr., Herman H., Dorothy M. Laman and Vance L.; and has 29 nieces and nephews. Gerald was never married but his love other than the seas was a 1974 Pontiac Firebird TransAM which he recently gifted to a nephew.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 7 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. A viewing will be held in the funeral home from 6 PM until time of the services. Inurnment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
