Obituary for Martha S. "Marty" Garver (Stover)
Martha Stover Garver, affectionately known as Marty, 92, of Hershey and formerly of Stoverdale, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, in Country Meadows, Hershey.
Born in Harrisburg on March 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. Stover, Sr. and Maryanna Landis Stover.
Marty was the first woman to become a chief deputy prothonotary in Dauphin County. She was a 1940 graduate of Hershey High School. Marty was a longtime active member of Stoverdale United Methodist Church, where she was president of the Women’s Missionary Society and a member of the choir. She was a member of the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey. Marty enjoyed shopping and spending time with her friends, but dearest to her was her family; she especially adored her grandchildren.
Marty was preceded in death by her beloved husband and childhood sweetheart, William F. Garver on August 8, 2013; a grandson, Gary W. Garver, Jr. on August 22, 2011; two sisters, Kathryn E. Santarelli and Sara E. Miller; two brothers, John E. Stover and Edward E. Stover, Jr.; and a half brother, Landis Curry.
She is survived by her son, Gary W. Garver, Sr. husband of Nancy L. of Hummelstown; her two grandchildren, Jennifer L. Garver-Hynes wife of Steven of Hershey, and Jason J. Garver husband of Kathryn of Hummelstown; her granddaughter-in-law, Lisa A. Garver widow of Gary Jr. of Saylorsburg; and her six great grandchildren, Zackary William Hynes, Owen Vaughn Hynes, Julia Grace Garver, Emma Rose Garver, Adam William Garver and Nathan Gary Garver.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 11 AM in Stoverdale United Methodist Church, Middletown Road, Derry Township, with The Rev. Dr. Emlyn H. Jones, officiating. Interment will be in the Stoverdale Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday in the church, from 10 AM until time of the service.
