Obituary for Edwin Kinley

E. Lee Kinley, age 85, of Acworth, Georgia, died on Friday, July 13, 2012.
Born in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Sylva Lyter Kinley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann (Short) Kinley, who died in 1990.
Lee was a graduate of the former Hummelstown High School and Hershey Junior College. He also studied at Virginia Tech (Army A-12) and the Pennsylvania State University.
He was a parachute test jumper in the United States Army during World II and received several commendations and medals during his service and for winter testing airborne equipment with Task Force “Frigid” in Alaska. He was also a life member of the 542nd Parachute Infantry Battalion Association.
Lee was a former President of the Pennsylvania Campground Owner’s Association; a Director of the Lion Country Visitors and Convention Bureau; and a member of the Executive Committees of the Pennsylvania Travel Council and the Pennsylvania Citizen’s Advisory Council.
He was a former co-owner of Laurel Distributors, Inc., in Laurel, Delaware. For many years, Lee also operated Kinley’s Marina in Indian River, Delaware. Later in life he also owned and operated a private campground called Hemlock Acres in Millheim, Pennsylvania.
Lee is survived by his four children, Marta L. Contwar and her husband, Ben, of Baltimore, Maryland, Mark E. Kinley and his wife, Fran, of Wheeling, West Virginia, Richard W. Kinley and his wife, Robin, of Acworth, Georgia, and Lori A. Raymond of Burlington, Vermont; and by 7 grandchildren. His sister, Erma M. Claar of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, also survives him.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 20, 2012, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. A private inurnment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family Friday from 10 AM until time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 26800, Lehigh Valley, PA 18002-6800.
