Obituary for Walter E. Zuna Sr.
Walter E. Zuna, Sr., 74, of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, in Holy Spirit Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Harrisburg on September 5, 1937, he was the son of the late Frank Zuna and Isabell Rhinehart Cassel of Shippensburg.
Walter retired from AMP, Inc., and also previously worked as a clerk for the former Fruehauf Trucking Company. He was a 1956 graduate of Central Dauphin High School. Walter was an US veteran serving with the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hoernerstown, and the Capital Area Beekeepers Association. Walter enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and taking care of his bees.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Gelencser Zuna, whom he married on June 10, 1961; two sons, Walter E. Zuna, Jr. husband of Rosalie of Bainbridge, and Michael S. Zuna husband of Shannon of Halifax; a sister, Fayetta Bowman; seven brothers, Glenn L. Cassel, Sr., Chester Cassel, James Zuna, John Zuna, Richard Zuna, Robert Zuna, and William Zuna; six grandchildren, Nicole Z. Harney, Jennifer E. Zuna, Walter E. Zuna, III, Michael B. Zuna, Autumn G. Zuna, and Olivia I. Zuna; and one great grandson, Larkin R. Harney.
In addition his father, Walter was preceded in death by his step-father, Joseph Cassel, Sr.; and a brother, Joseph Cassel, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Kirk C. Kerns, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends will be received for a viewing in the funeral home Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the services.
