Obituary for Gregory Vanek
Gregory Vanek, 64, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Camden, NJ on August 2, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph and Edith Klusman Vanek.
Greg retired from the Pennsylvania Judicial System where he worked as a computer programmer. He was a 1966 graduate of Collingswood High School, Collingswood, NJ; and received his Associates Degree from Hillsborough Community College, Tampa, FL. Greg was an U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Donegal Springs Presbyterian Church, Mt. Joy. In his spare time Greg enjoyed gardening and building flight simulators, but his greatest love was flying.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of nearly two years, Debra J. Volz Vanek, whom he married on June 20, 2010; two sons, Ryan Vanek of Jacksonville, FL, and Sean Vanek husband of Anita of Damascus, MD; a daughter, Julie Boggs wife of Luke of Rapid City, SD; two step-sons, Christopher Setnar of Ft. Campbell, KY, and Brendan Setnar husband of Brooke of Mt. Joy; two grandchildren, Charlotte Vanek of Damascus, MD, and Luke Boggs, Jr. of Rapid City, SD; three brothers, David Vanek of Florida, Jimmy Vanek of Monument, CO, and Jay Vanek of Thorndale; three sisters, Yvonne Rathbun and her significant other Murf of Lindenwold, NJ, Cindi Denni wife of Dan of Greely, CO, and Patty Zubia wife of Eric of Allentown; a niece, Lizzie Zubia; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 10 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Thomas J. McKinnon officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Friends are invited to the viewings in the funeral home on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday from 9 am until time of the services.
